"Totally Schway" Re-Watch: "Heroes" & "Shriek"

 Batman Beyond

It's been a minute since I've watched "Batman Beyond" and I think I forgot that the first season takes some time to really get going. It's not the instant classic that "Batman: The Animated Series" was, but it gets there. Let's get to it.

"Do You Like Scary Movies" Re-Watch: Scream 4

 "Scream 4" (2011)

Ghostface: "Alright, Kirby, then it's time for your last-chance question. Name the remake of the groundbreaking horror film in which the vill--"
Kirby Reed: "Halloween, uh, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, the Hills Have Eyes, Amityville Horror, uh, Last House on the Left, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, My Bloody Valentine, When a Stranger Calls, Prom Night, Black Christmas, House of Wax, the Fog, Piranha. It's one of those, right? Right?"

[After Olivia's death, Sidney answers Olivia's phone.]
Sidney Prescott: "What?"
Ghostface: "Welcome home, Sidney. Preview of coming events."
Sidney Prescott: "Why don't you come for me? You got the balls for that?"
Ghostface: "Oh, poor Sidney. You think this is all about you? You think you're still the star?"
Sidney Prescott: "This isn't a fucking movie."
Ghostface: "It will be."
Sidney Prescott: "These are innocent people!"
Ghostface: "Spare me the lecture! You've done very well by all this bloodshed, haven't you? Well, how about the town you left behind? I've got plans for you. I'm gonna slit your eyelids in half so you don't blink when I stab you in the face. You'll die when I want you to, Sidney, but not a moment before. Until then, you're going to suffer!"

I was very excited when "Scream 4" was announced because I didn't think that there ever would be another "Scream" movie with the original trio. Back in 2010, when the movie was announced, reboots and revivals weren't as common as they are now. So, it was a treat. There was a website that tracked the filming and shared on set photos and I followed that religiously. I saw it twice in the theaters. Once on opening night and then again a couple days later because my ex-husband, then boyfriend's friends were being a little obnoxious in the theater the first night.

Principal photography began in June 2010 and ended in September 2010. The film stars David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Neve Campbell at Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Emma Roberts as Jill Roberts, Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, Anthony Anderson as Anthony Perkins, Adam Brody as Ross Hoss, Rory Culkin as Charlie Walker, Mary McDonnell as Kate Roberts, Marley Shelton as Judy Hicks, Alison Brie as Rebecca Walters, Marielle Jaffe as Olivia Morris, Nico Tortorella as Trevor Sheldon, Erik Knudsen as Robbie Mercer, Anna Paquin as Rachel in "Stab 7," Kristen Bell as Chloe in "Stab 7," Shenae Grimes as Trudie in "Stab 6," Lucy Hale as Sherrie in "Stab 6," Britt Robertson as Marnie Cooper and Aimee Teagarden as Jenny Randall. The film was written by Kevin Williamson. It was directed by Wes Craven. "Scream 4" was released on April 15, 2011.

"Finger Lickin' Good" Re-Watch: "Ryomen Sukuna" & "For Myself"

 Jujutsu Kaisen

It was pretty obvious to me that the next anime that I was going to tackle for my anime feature after "Cowboy Bebop" was "Jujutsu Kaisen." It is my favorite anime currently airing. It is beautifully animated by MAPPA. The Japanese and English voice casts are stellar so whether you are watching it subbed or dubbed you are getting a great experience. It is based on the manga by Gege Akutami. The one sentence description of the series is as follows: After the death of his grandfather, high school student, Yuji Itadori, learns that curses are real and becomes the vessel for a 1,000 year old curse named Ryomen Sukuna when he eats one of his fingers.

For anime series based on manga, with each episode I'll list the manga chapters the episode covers and the arc that we are in. One of my favorite things watching anime are the opening and closing songs and "Jujutsu Kaisen" routinely knocks them out of the park. For the first half of the season, the opening song is "Kaikai Kitan" by Eve. You can watch it below.

"Do You Like Scary Movies?" Re-Watch: Scream 3

 "Scream 3" (2000)

Jennifer Jolie: "Gale Weathers!"
Gale Weathers: [says quietly] "Shit."
Jennifer Jolie: "Oh my God. Listen, I know we've never met and I don't mind you never returning my calls, but I have to tell you that after two films I feel like I am in your mind."
Gale Weathers: "Well that would explain my constant headaches."
Jennifer Jolie: "You know I'm sorry things didn't work out on 60 Minutes II but Total Entertainment, that's a pretty good fallback."
Gale Weathers: "Thank you. I'm sorry things didn't work out with Brad Pitt, but being single. That's a pretty good fallback."
Jennifer Jolie: "Gives me more time for my work. After all Gale Weathers, you're such a complex character."
Gale Weathers: "Oh, and to be played by an actress with such depth and range."

Jennifer Jolie: [To John Milton] "Come on, you have made millions off the story of her murder. You're obsessed with her and you're obsessed with her daughter!"
Gale Weathers: "Alright, easy Geraldo."

"Scream 3" was originally meant to be the final film in a trilogy of "Scream" films and it was for a long time. Out of the six "Scream" films, "Scream 3" and the original are the only ones that I haven't seen in the theater. I think I tried to convince some of my friends to go to the theater in Newton to see it with me, but they wouldn't go.

Principal photography on "Scream 3" began in July 1999 and was completed in September 1999. The ending was re-filmed in January 2000. The film stars David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Patrick Dempsey as Mark Kincaid, Scott Foley as Roman Bridger, Lance Henriksen as John Milton, Matt Keeslar as Tom Prinze, Jenny McCarthy as Sarah Darling, Emily Mortimer as Angelina Tyler, Parker Posey as Jennifer Jolie, Deon Richmond as Tyson Fox, Kelly Rutherford as Christine, Liev Schreiber as Cotton Weary and Patrick Warburton as Steven Stone. The film was written by Ehren Kruger. It was directed by Wes Craven. "Scream 3" premiered on February 4, 2000.

"Do You Like Scary Movies?" Re-Watch: Scream 2

 "Scream 2" (1997)

Sidney Prescott: "Yeah? Well, you're forgetting one thing about Billy Loomis."
Mickey Altieri: "What's that?"
Sidney Prescott: "I fucking killed him."

Sidney Prescott: "You're as crazy as your son was."
Debbie Salt: [shocked] "What did you just say?"
[Sidney trembles]
Debbie Salt: "Was that a negative, disparaging remark about my son? About my Billy?
Sidney Prescott: "No, Billy was a good boy. Billy was perfect. You did a bang up job, Mrs. Loomis."
Debbie Salt: "It's not wise to patronize a woman with a gun, Sidney. Randy spoke poorly of Billy and I got a little knife happy."

One of my formative teenage memories is seeing "Scream 2" in the theater with my mom. I remember that it was really cold outside. My mom had to go with me because I was only 14 and the Newton theater definitely wouldn't let me sneak in because everyone who worked there knew me. My mom was super surprised that I wanted to go because I do not like any sort of scary/horror movies. This was like the first scary movie I ever saw in a theater. And let me tell you. I was scared during this movie. My mom was cool as a cucumber. She didn't jump. Didn't move. She looked bored, honestly and I was afraid to go to the bathroom. When we left, she did this like full body shiver and said she was scared and I was gobsmacked.

Principal photography on "Scream 2" began in mid-June 1997 and ended in early September 1997. It was an extremely rushed production. The film suffered from script leaks on the internet causing the script to be re-written during filming with cast members consistently being given same day pages. It was released less than a year after the premiere of the original. That is wild. The film stars David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Cici Cooper, Jamie Kennedy as Randy Meeks, Laurie Metcalfe as Debbie Salt, Elise Neal as Hallie McDaniel, Jerry O'Connell as Derek Feldman, Timothy Olyphant as Mickey Altieri, Jada Pinkett as Maureen Evans, Liev Schreiber as Cotton Weary, Lewis Arquette as Chief Louis Hartley, Duane Martin as Joel, Omar Epps as Phil Stevens, Rebecca Gayheart as Lois and Portia de Rossi as Murphy. The film was written by Kevin Williamson. It was directed by Wes Craven. "Scream 2" was released on December 12, 1997.

"Do You Like Scary Movies?" Re-Watch: Scream (1996)

 "Scream" (1996)

Ghostface: "Do you like scary movies, Sidney?"
Sidney Prescott: "I like that thing you're doing with your voice, Randy, it's sexy."
Ghostface: "What's your favorite scary movie?"
Sidney Prescott: "Oh, come on You know I don't watch that shit."
Ghostface: "Why not? Too scared?"
Sidney Prescott: "No, no. It's just what's the point? They're all the same. Some stupid killer stalking some big breasted girl who can't act who's always running up the stairs when she should be going out the front door. It's insulting."

Gale Weathers: "Kenny, I know you're about fifty pounds overweight. But, when I say 'move it,' please interpret that as MOVE YOUR FAT, TUB OF LARD ASS, NOW!!"

Much like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," it's kind of wild that this is the first time I'm talking about the "Scream" series on this blog. It's kind of strange that I love these movies so much because overall I am not a horror girlie. In fact, I don't think that I watched the whole opening sequence of "Scream" until I saw the sequel in the theater with my mom. This is a movie that I watched piecemeal. I would like hype myself up to watch it and then stop. Start, then stop. But, eventually I watched it all and I've now seen it a million times. To the point that I can probably quote it from memory. It's one of my favorite movies of all-time. Who would have ever guessed?

Principal photography on "Scream" took place from April to June 1996. The film stars David Arquette as Dewey Riley, Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, Jamie Kennedy as Randy Meeks, Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher, Rose McGowan as Tatum Riley, Liev Schreiber as Cotton Weary, Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis and Drew Barrymore as Casey Becker. The film was written by Kevin Williamson. It was directed by Wes Craven. "Scream" was released on December 20, 1996.

"Hated and Feared" Re-Watch: "Storm Front" Parts 1 & 2

 X-Men

"Storm Front" is another two-parter that pulls quite a bit from a past comic. In this case it is "King-Size X-Men Annual" #5. It introduced Arkon to the world of the X-Men and he had a relationship of sorts with Storm. Let's get to it.

A Deep Dive Into the Discography: Tori Amos Part 2

A Deep Dive Into the Discography: Tori Amos

Well, it's been almost two years since I did the first part of this. I keep meaning to come back to it but it always feels like something else takes precedence and then I forget about it. Though I do have a couple of friends consistently asking me when I'm going to finish. Well, the wait is over. Here are my top 8 Tori records. And if you need a refresher on the first half of the list, you can find that here. Let's go.

"Shulkie" She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Recaps: "A Normal Amount of Rage," "Superhuman Law" & "The People Vs. Emil Blonsky"

 She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

If you are following along on Disney+, you probably saw that the next thing after "Thor: Love & Thunder was the "I Am Groot" shorts. Well, we are going to skip that. Those shorts are cute and definitely watch them if you haven't, but I don't think there is a lot for me to say about them.

When Marvel first announced their initial slate of Disney+ television shows, "She-Hulk" was the one that I was looking forward to the most. I am a huge She-Hulk fan. I remember reading her solo series written and drawn by the incredible John Byrne. It was brilliant and honestly, she hasn't had many solo volumes that weren't brilliant and I was excited to see how that translated to the small screen. Let's find out if it did as we check out the first three episodes.

"One Girl in All the World" Re-Watch: "School Hard" & "Inca Mummy Girl"

 Buffy the Vampire Slayer

These episodes see the introduction of some iconic "Buffy" characters. We get Spike and Drusilla, Oz and the rest of Dingoes Ate My Baby and even Jonathan. Let's get to it.

"I Am the Moon" Re-Watch: "Premonition of the Apocalypse: The Mysterious New Guardians Appear" & "The Rod of Love Is Born: Usagi's New Transformation"

 Sailor Moon S

I have always loved the last three seasons of "Sailor Moon" so I am super excited to get started with "Sailor Moon S." The "S" stands for Super. "Sailor Moon S" introduces the rest of the outer Sailor Senshi who are probably my favorites. It is super queer, to the point where in the original English dub that they made Haruka and Michiru cousins instead of lovers, which is wild, since they didn't change any of the dialogue. Let's get to it.
